چکیده

Introduction The coronary sinus (CS) is a critical structure that has helped aid electrophysiologists by providing information about epicardial activation along the mitral annulus. Additionally, the advent of biventricular pacing utilizes the CS venous system for lead placement. The CS collects the venous drainage of the atrial and ventricular venous branches and drains into the right atrium (RA). CS anomalies have been recognized, namely atresia of the CS ostium, unroofed CS, connection with the left atrium, and even hypoplasia of the CS. We report 3 cases of CS ostium opening in the midlateral RA. This anomaly may provide new insight into the development of the CS as well as provide an explanation for difficult cannulation of the CS.

Electrical conduction between the right atrium and the left atrium via the musculature of the coronary sinus.

BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to determine whether the coronary sinus (CS) musculature has electrical connections to the right atrium (RA) and left atrium (LA) and forms an RA-LA connection. METHODS AND RESULTS Six excised dog hearts were perfused in a Langendorff preparation. A 20-electrode catheter (2-4-2-mm spacing center to center) was placed along the CS. Excision of the pulmo...

Atrial reentrant tachycardia after heart transplantation.

A68-year-old man presented with an incessant supraventricular tachycardia 3 months after heart transplantation. A dual-chamber pacemaker had been implanted immediately after surgery for bradyarrhythmias. Electrophysiological study was performed with a multipolar halo catheter (20 electrode pairs) in the right atrium and bior quadripolar catheters in a high lateral, His, and coronary sinus ostiu...

Atrial Septal Defects in the Adult

Nomenclature and Classification There are 3 major types of ASDs or interatrial communications: ostium secundum, ostium primum, and sinus venosus (Figure 1A) defects. The ostium secundum is a true defect of the atrial septum and involves the region of the fossa ovalis. The ostium primum defect is within the spectrum of the atrioventricular (AV) septal defects (Figure 1B; also known as AV canal d...

Atresia of the Coronary Sinus Ostium to the Right Atrium with a Persistent Left Superior Vena Cava Atresia del Ostium del Seno Coronario en el Atrio Derecho con una Vena Cava Superior Izquierda Persistente

The coronary sinus has lately assumed an important role in the cardiologic clinic once it has been widely used in invasive procedures of the heart. Commonly, it is used during the electrodes implants for the epimiocardic monitoring of the cardiac rhythm, through a biventricular pace maker. These invasive procedures are not possible in hearts with an atresic coronary sinus ostium. In the presenc...

Incremental His-to-coronary sinus maneuver: a nonlocal electrogram-based technique to assess complete cavotricuspid isthmus block during typical flutter ablation.

BACKGROUND Achievement of complete cavotricuspid isthmus (CTI) conduction block reduces typical atrial flutter recurrences after ablation. The lack of increase in the His-to-coronary sinus ostium atrial interval during incremental pacing (IP) from the low lateral right atrium may distinguish slow conduction from complete CTI conduction block. METHODS AND RESULTS Sixty-six consecutive patients...
